What is Mur Cat Meme?

Mur Cat –  also known as “Strange Knowledge Increased Cat” is a meme character that was developed in depth of Asian imageboards in 2013 and later gained popularity within Chinese and Taiwan networks, in the second half of 2019 and early 2020.

Mur Cat is a representation of illiteracy/Autistic Ignorance of a certain situation or your own actions.
Other words – Cat with a “dementia” expression, definitely having a mental deficiency and knowing little of what’s happening.
You can use the MUR Cat meme when you are stupid or pretending to be dumb.

Mur Expression Origins

By June 16, 2012, someone posted a video file on Niconico with a character from the adult film “Babylon Stage 27 Labyrinth of Temptation”  which was released on July 20, 1999.

The Character was called “Miura” (みうら) and as he has the first letter M in his name, He was called “MUR” by the Japanese Roman pinyin.

At this point, there was no connection with a cat meme at all.

Mur Cat Origins

According to existing internet data, somewhere in 2009, the Chinese-speaking community had spread the cat photo over imageboards and forums which has similar to Miura expression. No information about it’s the origin of who exactly posted the first photo.

On 2 November 2013, Niconico user “Minamoto Fran” uploaded a video with a modified and distorted picture of this cat and MUR (Miura) character, accenting on the ideal similarity of these two beings and their expressions.

Mental insufficiency God blessing as has never before.
Video put two perfect imbecile beings together to create an ideal meme. At this point, the “MUR Cat” name gained a strong foothold for the Niconico community.

MUR Cat Nowadays

The MUR Cat continues to develop by the Niconico community.
On May 27 2014, Someone made an MMD model of the MUR Cat.

All Current MUR Cat emoticons and memes on the Chinese Internet was made with this 3D Model.

In September 2014 Chinese internet community continued to improve the MUR cat meme module altogether. The long path this poor bastard cat made, indeed.

At the end of 2019, a new emoji package was made by combining the background shots of the protagonist Kira Yamato from Mobile Suit Gundam the SEED Anime with MUR Cat 3D Model.

This brilliant combination of background and MUR Cat led to a new wave of creative explosion and the most popular variation of MUR Cat meme “Strange Knowledge Increased“.

By February of 2020, MUR Cat became popular in China, Japan, and Taiwan.
Later in the middle of 2020 MUR Cat meme started its path on Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and all other social media.

In February 2020 MUR Cat was added as a Mod for a Video Game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on the Nexus Mods website.

At the moment the bizarre power of MUR Cat is cracking our planet in half, and it’s not even his final form.
